(NY38 – Dec.24) SANTA — A WORLD AWAY – Mixed expressions, from doubt (top left) to tears (bottom right) crossed the faces of younsters at Vien Rosa Orphanage at Cu Chi, 20 miles northwest of Saigon as they got their first view of a red-suited figure more familiar to western eyes. But they soon warmed up to Santa, portrayed by [Pfc.] Raymond Crombie of Quincy, Mass., as he passed our presents in the orphanage courtyard. Crombie is from a unit stationed nearby, which makes the orphanages’s 130 youngsters their special project. (AP Wirephoto). Godfrey, 1969.
