Résumé : A market is not only the place where merchants, producers, and brokers meet to exchange goods ; it is also a place where the state interacts with individuals engaged in exchange. This presentation outlines the history of market creation, market regulation, and merchant group formation on the Chinese frontier to provide insights into the distinct profile of Chinese legal and economic history.
